The Meadows Group will be holding this year’s Autumn Meeting in the Red Dragon Hall, Drefach Felindre. We will hear a short talk by Maggie Carr on “The Incredible Seed Library”, another by Alison Fraser on “Invasive Non-Native Species – What should we do about Himalayan Balsam?”. There will also be a short presentation from Carmarthenshire County Council’s Biodiversity Officer, Isabel Macho, on “Carmarthenshire’s State of Nature Report”.
As usual, there will be a break for tea/coffee/biscuits/chat, after which the main talk will be given by Kate MacRae, and is entitled “From Staffordshire to Carmarthenshire – My First Year of Welsh Wildlife”.
Kate MacRae, better known to many as “Wildlife Kate”, moved to Carmarthenshire in September 2023. It has been a busy year for Kate, getting to know her new wild neighbours and installing the infrastructure that allows her to monitor and film the wildlife visiting her 3-acre site. Kate has featured on the BBC 6 O’clock News and ‘Coast & Country’ with the clips she has already captured here. In her talk, we will get a ‘behind the scenes’ view of what she has set up, and get to see some of the footage she has gathered in this first year. From bird feeders to nest boxes, ponds to waterholes, Kate has captured some amazing footage, but this is only the start; she has grand plans for her new home!
The meeting will start at 10am, and will finish at about 1pm. Carmarthenshire Meadows Group members have free admission, but non-members are also welcome, £3 entry fee or join the group for a year for £10.
