Anyone, even people who have never seen one, can recognise the call of a Cuckoo. The Carmarthenshire Nature Partnership, County Bird Club and WWBIC are asking everyone who hears a cuckoo to please send in a record. You need to know the date, and the location – ideally a grid reference and there are free smartphone apps that will tell you that. You can send your record to WWBIC https://record.wwbic.org.uk/, or use the LERC app which you can download for free – it will know the grid ref., or use i-record https://irecord.org.uk/
At the spring CMG meeting, Isabel asked the audience how many people had heard a cuckoo – most of the audience had. But as to how many had made the record – very few. Knowing where species are, and where they aren’t, is a pre-requisite to being able to conserve them. So, when you hear a cuckoo, send in a record!
