Workshop: How healthy is your meadow?
Thursday 8th June, 10.00am – 4.00pm
Denmark Farm, Carmarthenshire
Do you own or manage a meadow or grassland? Would you like to find out how to monitor its development? This workshop will give you all the tools and information you need including which plants to choose as indicators, how to set up transects and how to analyse the results of your surveys. You will be able to take part in a trial survey and learn how to apply the techniques to your own land. This is a free course but booking is essential. Wild flower & Orchid Count
Saturday 17th June, 10.00am – 4.00pm
Cae Blaen Dyffryn reserve, near Lampeter, Carmarthenshire
Join us at beautiful Cae Blaen Dyffryn for the annual survey of the wild flowers and greater butterfly orchids at the reserve. With thousands of flowers to count, every pair of eyes is needed! The day will include a guided walk, wild flower survey and orchid count and a lunchtime talk. We also hope to set up a moth trap to learn more about the insects using the reserve. National Meadows Day Celebration at Dinefwr
Saturday 1st July, 11.00am – 4.00pm
National Trust Dinefwr, Carmarthenshire
Come along and celebrate National Meadows Day at National Trust Dinefwr’s beautiful Castle Field. Activities for all the family including guided walks, making wild flower bunting and bug hunts. You can even get involved in our meadow survey. Entry fee for adults is £8.00 gift aided (£7.27 non gift aided) and for children is £4.00 gift aided (£3.63 non gift aided). Cae Blaen Dyffryn reserve, nr Lampeter, Carmarthenshire
Open to Plantlife members and Carmarthenshire Meadows Group members. Would you like to learn the art of scything? It is an eco-friendly, fun way of cutting hay, clearing scrub and even mowing the lawn! The aim of this course is to teach you what you need to know to get you mowing. Cost: £15 per person. There are two opportunities to attend – the course on Thursday 24th August will be repeated on Saturday 26th August. The course is delivered by Scythe Cymru. Booking is essential. As always it’s great to receive any photos or pieces about meadows in Carmarthenshire. Our Lousewort (Pediculatris sylvayica) is still flowering well, (and apologies for calling it Marsh Lousewort last time), and still attracting it least 3 species of bumblebees. But more generally our hay meadow has now changed to a sea of Sweet Vernal grass and dandelion flower and seed heads…
A week ago during a walk near Cwmtydu in Ceredigion we came across meadows dominated by Ribwort/Lanceolate Plantain…
