“On 16 May there will be a public information talk in Carmarthen on a subject that everyone has likely heard about – but what are the facts and what can we do? We are Carmarthen & District Beekeeping Association. We are entirely charitable and non-profit making and invested in public engagement on many relevant environmental issues.

The imminent threat of the Yellow-Legged (Asian) Hornet will be not only a huge threat to all insect life, and therefore our food security, but is also a Public Health issue. The sting of these invasive non-native hornets can, and does, kill people. Four deaths were reported in Northern Europe last year. A single colony can devour up to 11kg of insect protein in a season  – this is a coming Armageddon for our pollinators. But there are things we can do and information we must know.

Paul Pearce, the Vice-Chair of our Welsh Beekeeping Association  wbka.com will give a talk at Carmarthen’s Civic Hall on Saturday 16 May  1.30pm for 2pm start – plenty of time for questions afterwards while you enjoy light refreshments (at a minimal charge to help defray the cost of the venue). Yellow Legged Hornet: Not Just a Beekeeping problem

Bydd bygythiad agos y Yellow-Leged (Asian) Hornet nid yn unig yn fygythiad enfawr i fywyd pob pryfed, ac felly ein diogelwch bwyd, ond mae hefyd yn fater Iechyd y Cyhoedd. Gall pigiad y corned anfrodorol ymledol hyn ladd pobl, ac mae’n gwneud hynny. Adroddwyd am bedair marwolaeth yng Ngogledd Ewrop y llynedd. Gall un nythfa fwyta hyd at 11kg o brotein pryfed mewn tymor – dyma Armageddon sydd ar ddod i’n peillwyr. Ond mae yna bethau y gallwn eu gwneud a gwybodaeth y mae’n rhaid i ni ei wybod.
