Many CMG members will know of the Carbon Community near Cynghordy, Llandovery. But as well as the areas for experiments on carbon sequestration by tree planting, there are some very interesting grasslands there as well. On Saturday 27th June there will be guided
walks to see the meadows, led by Dr Lizzie Wilberforce who will be well known to many CMG members. You will need to book a place for the event, there is a choice of a morning or afternoon walk. To book please go to: https://bit.ly/CarbonComMeadow26
Also a search is on for volunteers to observe and record the health of hawthorne in a changing world. The Forest Research website says: “Hedgerows are one of the most recognisable features of the UK landscape — and at their heart stands hawthorn. Now, a new national research initiative is calling on volunteers to help strengthen our understanding of hawthorn resilience in a changing world.
The project, a collaboration between Forest Research, Fera, The Tree Council, and the International Plant Sentinel Network, aims to assess how resilient hawthorn is to pests, diseases and environmental pressures and how this vulnerability may impact the surrounding treescape.”
