Notice of webinar: Grassland and Carbon Sequestration – 2 March 2022 at 7pm

Plantlife are hosting this webinar as part of their Meadow Makers Project. Its full title is Grassland Carbon: restoration, creation and management practices that affect carbon sequestration in grasslands.

There will be two presentations from specialists who will share the findings of their work on soil carbon:

Penny Anderson BSc., MSc., CEcol, FCIEEM, Ecologist will draw from her 2021 review on this topic. Carbon and ecosystems: restoration and creation to capture carbon. She will help identify the contribution grasslands in UK can play in the race to capture more carbon from the atmosphere whilst at the same time addressing the biodiversity crisis and incorporating other ecosystem services.

Phil Wilson PhD MCIEEM, Ecologist and Devon farmer will talk about data he is publishing from over 1400 NE and landowner grassland sites across UK. This includes analyses of soil nutrients and soil carbon over different management systems and grassland condition status. He will throw some light on factors such as grassland type, grazing and mowing regimes as well as sward diversity.

This will be followed by a Q & A and an opportunity to explore next steps towards measuring carbon sequestration in different grassland types.

It’s free via Zoom, but you will need to register. After registering you will receive email confirmation and joining instructions.
